What We Make

After a long and stressful shift, I was on the bus heading home. As I was still in my uniform, a random passerby recognized what I did for a living, and sneered at me "Oh you're an EMT. That's cool, I wanted to do that when I was a kid, but thankfully grew out of it. I am in a MUCH better job, and pull in 60 bucks an hour just sitting around watching screens!" The man smirked, "What do YOU make?" "What do I make?" I replied, closing my eyes. "I make holding your hand seem like the biggest thing in the world when I'm pulling you out of a car wreck. I make those annoying sirens seem like angels when you need them. I can make your children breathe when they stop. I can make your bleeding stop when you can't. I can help you survive a heart attack. When you're snowed in, I'm on the road. I make myself get out of bed at 3am to risk my life to save people I've never met. When disasters happen and you are running away, I'm running towards it without thinking twice. Today I might make the ultimate sacrifice to save your life. I make a DIFFERENCE, so tell me again, what do YOU make?"

The description was grabbed from Facebook, but it reflects how EMTs are seen by many. We come to the rescue of those who come to your rescue. Officers, Firefighters, even heroes need heroes.

We are the unseen, as our faces are rarely remembered.

We are EMS.

Here is a shout-out to all the EMS Workers in Boston who worked tirelessly to save who they could after the bombing. Many more could have died if not for them.


This may be moved to the scraps after a few months.
